The Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS) Qualified Clinician will conduct referral assessments, clinical assessments for people receiving services experiencing psychiatric and/or behavioral crises, provide clinical consultation for Developmental Services Shared Living, Brain Injury and Adult Family Care Teams.  They will also provide Positive Behavioral Supports based clinical trainings and will develop and provide training for Positive Behavioral Support Plans and medication treatment plans.

  1. Participate in the Advocates’ Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP) plan which includes implementing, modeling and training Universal, Targeted and Intensive Behavioral Supports.  Also, being a member and participating in meetings of the PBS Intensive Behavioral Support Team.
  2. Work to implement the tenants of The Advocates Way Philosophy.
  3. Work collaboratively and effectively within the multidisciplinary teams that include people receiving services, Shared Living Team, Adult Family Care Team, Developmental Residential/Day Teams, Brain Injury Residential/Day Supports Teams.
  4. Provide individual specific consultation for people receiving services, their families and behavioral health and medical health care professionals as needed.
  5. Work with referral team by conducting referral assessments to determine psychiatric and/or behavioral support needs and participate in process to determine if support needs identified can be provided by Advocates.
  6. Develop, train and monitor data for Positive Behavioral Support Plans or Guidelines as needed.
  7. Develop, train and monitor data for Medication Treatment Plans as needed.
  8. Develop, train and monitor data for any restrictive practices as needed.
  9. Ensure Positive Behavioral Support Plans, Guidelines, Medication Treatment Plans and Restrictive Practices developed meet and follow DDS regulations including presenting to Advocates Human Rights Committee.
  10. Ensure that individuals we support are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Advocates’ Human Rights policy.
  11. Participate in all required supervisions and staff meetings.
  12. Work collaboratively with Advocates various support departments (i.e. Quality Management, Risk Management, Fiscal, Human Resources, Facilities).
  13. Work collaboratively with families of people receiving services.
  14. Work collaboratively and attend meetings with funders as needed.
  15. Maintain certifications for all mandatory trainings required by Advocates and funder’s regulations.
  16. Perform all duties in accordance with Advocates policies and procedures.
  17. Strictly follow all agency Performance Standards.



  1. Master’s degree in Social Work, Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, or related field and current, Commonwealth of MA, licensure in one of the following areas: Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Independent Social Worker, Licensed Applied Behavior Analyst, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Rehabilitation Counselor OR a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor OR a Master's or doctorate level teacher with a certification in special education OR a doctorate level special education teacher actively teaching the topics of positive behavior support or applied behavior analysis at the college or university level.
  2. Minimum of three years of training, including post graduate class work or formal training, and/or experience in function based behavioral assessment and treatment.
  3. Minimum of three years of clinical experience in the treatment of individuals with developmental disabilities and/or brain injuries.
  4. Experience supporting people with substance or alcohol addiction.
  5. Strongly prefer that a candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations
  6. Ability to use an Electronic Health Record to document medical necessary clinical services.
  7. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  8. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  9. Commitment to Advocates values and mission.
  10. Must have valid driver’s license and access to auto.
