    The Chief Compliance Officer is responsible for the implementation and ongoing operations of Advocates Corporate Compliance and Privacy and Security Programs (Compliance Program).  He/she is responsible for taking all necessary action under the Compliance Program to enforce Advocates policies and procedures and all applicable laws and regulatory requirements pursuant to the Compliance Program by means of monitoring, training, mandating compliance and corrective actions, and recommending necessary disciplinary action for misconduct.

    Responsibilities

    • Monitors the work of Advocates to ensure that the organization, and all of its employees and agents, conduct themselves in accordance with Advocate’s policies and procedures and all applicable state and federal regulations.
    • Identifies and reports any areas of suspected non-compliance to division and program leadership. 
    • Notifies the CEO immediately of any concerns related to employee misconduct and noncompliance involving significant risk of harm to persons served, employees and/or exposure to the organization.
    • Investigates all suspected intentional and accidental compliance and privacy and security related problems and suspected misconduct.
    • Provides consultation to division and program leadership to assist them in developing corrective actions plans to ameliorate problems where needed.
    • Chairs the Advocates Corporate Compliance Committee of senior level organization leaders which oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of Advocates Corporate Compliance Program.
    • Oversees the training and education of all Advocates employees and agents about Advocates Corporate Compliance and Privacy and Security Programs. 
    • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with Advocates employees and agents, to provide guidance on compliance and privacy and security requirements to ensure adherence to policies and procedures and applicable regulations.
    • Develops new policies and procedures to meet compliance and privacy and security regulations.
    • Periodically updates and modifies the Compliance Program as organization needs and requirements change.
    • Stays informed of laws and regulations that may affect the organization’s policies and procedures.
    • Prepares an annual report to Advocate’s Board of Directors describing the general compliance efforts undertaken during the preceding year and to provide a work plan of goals for maintaining and/or improving the Compliance Program for the coming year. 
    • Serves as a member of Advocates Senior Leadership Team.
    • Attends Advocates Quality Council meetings
    • Attends and actively participates in supervision and staff meetings.

    Qualifications

    • Master’s (MA/MS) degree in social services or related field and 5-7 years' experience in corporate or nonprofit Compliance.
    • Strong computer knowledge; familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
    • Proven leadership, management and administrative skills and ability to multi-task effectively.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.  Must be able to perform both independently and as a collaborative team contributor.
    • Creative problem-resolution skills; flexibility, adaptability, commitment to succeed through change.
    • High energy level, superior interpersonal and collaboration skills, and ability to work collaboratively in a team atmosphere.
    • Must hold a valid driver's license, have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport clients.
    • Strongly prefer a candidate that will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
