The Advocates Shared Living Program matches individuals with disabilities to members of the community who provide care at home, much like a family member. Our caregivers receive a tax-free stipend and ongoing training, support, and resources from Advocates staff. Perhaps most importantly, all participants are making a difference in someone else’s life, creating bonds that last a lifetime.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: planning and sharing meals together each day, attending medical appointments, medication oversight, participating and arranging community activities, and sharing general life experiences. The Shared Living Caregiver may also need to provide more assistance, supervision and teaching in areas such as bathing, dressing, personal hygiene and budgeting. In addition, there may be a need to provide emotional and behavioral supports. When searching for Shared Living Caregivers we will consider applicants who are: single, couples, families; people with children, with and without pets, and people with or without experience.
