  • Overview

    The Life Skills Instructor has responsibility for the assigned individual and for the implementation of the individual’s Day Habilitation Service Plan.  The Life Skills Instructor will provide the following to assigned individual: developmental skills training, implementing therapeutic service plan (DHSP) for assigned individuals.

    Minimum Education Required

    High School Diploma/GED


    • Provide ongoing support, through personal care, guidance and role modeling for individual.
    • Collaborate with the BCBA and parent to provide developmental skills training including training in self-care, self-preservation, receptive and expressive communication, and self-direction, activities of daily living, hygiene, grooming and first aid.
    • Collaborate with BCBA and parent to create and implement a comprehensive written therapeutic service plan (DHSP) for individual.
    • Participate in planning and implementation of daily activity schedule and daily routines.
    • Ensure that individual we support are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Advocates’ Human Rights Policy.
    • Attend and actively participate in supervision and team meetings.
    • Adhere to all principles related to the Advocates Way.
    • Attend trainings as assigned; maintain necessary certifications (CPR, First Aid).
    • Perform all duties in accordance with the agency’s policies and procedures.


    • High School Diploma or GED and one year of experience in a training program for individuals with developmental disabilities.
    • Basic computer knowledge.
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and ability to use good judgmen
    • Excellent written and verbal communication.
    • Strongly prefer a candidate that will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
