The Interpreter acts as a vital communicative liaison between English and non-English speaking individuals in the Advocates counseling community.  The Interpreter will translate communication between care recipients and providers within our MetroWest-based clinics.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret written and verbal English to and from Spanish and/or Portuguese for staff and program members.
  • Work effectively with outside interpreters during trainings and meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with the Clinic Director regarding quality assurance such as assignment logistics, scheduling, number of interpreters needed per assignment.
  • Maintain professional competency through community involvement and professional organizations.

Qualifications

  • Must have active NCIHC certification, CMI certification, or similar professional Interpreter certification.
  • Must have interpreting experience in a wide variety of settings, particularly in Mental Health or medical settings.
  • Ability in dealing with complex, sensitive and emotional issues.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information at all times.
  • Must possess strong customer service approach, active listening and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license, have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to travel between sites.
  • Strongly prefer a candidate that will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
