The Skills Instructor is responsible for ensuring that the highest quality support is afforded to individuals who receive Day Habilitation Services.  The Skills Instructor will provide will provide hands on developmental skills training that fosters growth and independence.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all program participant’s input to their interests and preferences have been assessed and participants are assisted in achieving their personal goals.
  • Assist in the development of innovative program ideas and alternative therapeutic activities that foster individual’s empowerment and program satisfaction.
  • Provide skills training and support to individuals.
  • Assist individuals through implementation of all goals and objectives and provide ongoing support, guidance and role modeling for individuals.
  • Responsible for the completion of daily data.
  • Communicate any participant needs to the Senior Case Manager and Program Manager.
  • Ensure continuous communication between staff, participants, families, funding sources, consultants, the community, and administrative team.
  • Ensure daily attendance/billing is complete and accurate.
  • Ensure that all individuals’ personal care needs are met, including bathroom, meal prep and feeding and activities of daily living.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and one year of experience in a training program for individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Strongly prefer that a candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
  • Must have ability to read English and communicate effectively in the primary language of the program to which he/she is assigned.
  • Must be able to multi-task with frequently changing priorities. 
  • Must possess Strong computer knowledge.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a larger resource team. 
  • Must hold a valid drivers’ license.  Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport consumers.
