The Medications Specialist will provide medication training, administration, storage, and incident reporting for medication administration. This will include but is not limited to reviewing doctors’ orders, transcribing medication sheets, and reviewing medication related goals.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor program participants’ daily medication schedule providing support and assistance where needed.
  • Provide education regarding medication names, dosages, and side effects to program participants.
  • Create and maintain medication support plans.
  • Track, document, and assist program participants in obtaining medication orders for new, changed, or discontinued medication.
  • Assist program participants to connect with Community Health Center/providers for medication evaluation, when applicable.
  • Responsible for oversight of record keeping, safe storage, packed medication for LOA, refrigerated medication and proper disposal of medication.
  • Transcribe prescription information and complete daily medication counts.
  • Conduct regular (weekly) review of medication documentation.
  • Responsible for running weekly medication/wellness group.
  • Communicate program participant’s progress, mental status, and any changes in daily notes.
  • Liaison to other community providers, related agencies and develop community resources, as needed to assure proper medication service needs are met in the community.
  • Provide training and ongoing supervision of new employees and cross trained staff on program’s medication administration, policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Report any medication errors to supervisor, internal medication incident reporting, and BSAS. Investigate and review documentation to determine how/why the medication error occurred.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of the State and Federal confidentiality laws, including medication confidentiality laws.
  • Maintain ongoing constructive and productive communications with program/agency staff and service providers.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED. Knowledge of BSAS medication guidelines for residential level of care, preferred. 
  • Strongly prefer that a candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of the population.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • High energy level, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to read English and communicate effectively in the primary language of the program(s) to which he/she is assigned.
  • Must hold a valid drivers’ license. Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport clients.
